Established in 1920, the New Forest Agricultural Show Society held its first show to the north of the forest at Bartley Cross. While initially a small event, the annual show now takes place over the course of three days in which 95,000 people are drawn to features such as show jumping and livestock competitions.
Over 500 volunteers lend their free time to support the heralded show as well as to promote the event throughout the year. As a testament to its continuous success, the New Forest and Hampshire County Show (now held at New Park) has been rated as one of the top ten agricultural shows and has even seen a visit from Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness, The Duke of Edinburgh in 2012.
The show continues to follow its mission of ‘the holding of an annual show to promote and encourage the development of agriculture, forestry equestrianism and horticulture and encourage the improvement in the breeding of stock’.
